About us
Marginalized Groups Action Network (MAGAN) was officially launched on 20th August 2020 in Hargeisa, the capital city of Somaliland. The organization was founded by dedicated human rights activists and community advocates from various marginalized communities, along with supportive individuals from majority clans.
MAGAN is a non-governmental, non-profit, and voluntary organization committed to protection, human rights, and community empowerment. It is officially registered with Somaliland’s Ministry of Planning and Coordination and the Office of the Attorney General, and operates with a structured organizational framework that ensures effective management and accountability.
The organization works to protect marginalized communities from social, economic, and political exclusion, promote human rights, and strengthen the capacity of communities to actively participate in decision-making and development initiatives. MAGAN prioritizes supporting vulnerable populations, including women, children, and other disadvantaged groups, while advocating for equitable access to education, resources, and opportunities.
Through its programs, MAGAN addresses social discrimination, cultural marginalization, and economic inequality, fostering empowerment and resilience in marginalized communities. The organization’s leadership and decision-making processes are community-centered, ensuring that initiatives reflect the needs and rights of those it serves.

MAGAN is principally established for the promotion and protection of human rights and for addressing deep-rooted discrimination and social exclusion faced by marginalized communities across Somaliland. The organization is committed to community empowerment, environmental protection, and inclusive development in all regions of the country.
MAGAN’s work focuses on supporting vulnerable populations—including women, children, and other disadvantaged groups—by promoting their rights in areas such as education, health, economic development, culture, sports, and social participation. The organization prioritizes human rights advocacy, research, documentation, and public awareness campaigns as essential tools to combat inequality and empower communities.
